The Yorkshire Ripper Part 1

  It began in the Summer of 1975, although no one knew it at the time. The first attacks left their victims grievously injured with skull fractures, lying in pools of blood as  the mysterious stranger fled into the West Yorkshire night. No one paid it much attention, not even when the first bodies began to appear, their heads caved in with a ball-pean hammer. They were only prostitutes after all, young women whom polite society looked down upon. It went on this way for years, until the body of a virtuous 16-year-old was found. Then the cries of the people became too loud for the West Yorkshire Police to ignore and they were forced to act. What followed was one of the most extensive investigations in the UK’s history, and one of its bloodiest, as they sought to capture the elusive man known as The Yorkshire Ripper.

The Moors Murders

This week on The Deathcast, we continue our ride through the blood drenched English countryside as we look into the life and crimes of Ian Brady and Myra Hindley. Perhaps no other names call up images of torture, rape, and murder in the collective mind of British citizens as readily as these two do. Their crimes shocked the nation and then the world, as the duo went on to claim the lives of at least five innocent children, burying four of them in the moors near Manchester before being caught on October 7, 1965.
  56 years have passed since the police swooped down on their small home, but questions remain: How did the daughter of blue collar parents end up ensnared in the games of a Nazi obsessed small time criminal from Ireland? What led her to follow him as he descended into a world of madness, torture, and amateur pornography? Are there other victims? All of this and more will be explored this week on The Deathcast.

The Murder of James Bulger

On February 12, 1993, two year old James Bulger went missing from the Strand Shopping Center in Bootle, Merseyside, UK while his mother paid for her purchase at the butchers shop in a crime that would shock and enrage the world. It would be two days before there were any answers, but the questions that remained would be a topic that would be hotly debated in the decades since.

Blood, Fire Death

`On the morning of december 14, 1992 a car driving down a desolate lane in Werneth Low, Manchester, United Kingdom came upon a young woman who was badly burned over 80% of her body and had signs of horrific abuse. She would be taken to a nearby house, before being transferred to a local hospital where she would lapse into a coma and die, but not before giving the names and address of the six people who had kept her prisoner and inflicted levels of torture unimaginable on her for over five days.
