The childrenof Japan’s Saitama Prefecture had little to fear prior to the summer of 1988. When Mari Konno, aged 4 went missing that August it was seen as an isolated incident. As the months passed and more little girls went missing, parents began to hold their children tightly, fearing that they too might become a victim of The Rat Man.
