On June 28, 1993 Long Island State Troupers saw a small pickup truck moving along the Southern State Parkway. Noting that the vehicle lacked a license plate, the officers attempted to pull the driver over only to be ignored. A chase ensued, with the truck eventually crashing into a lamp post at an intersection. After placing the driver under arrest, the two officers made a grizzly discovery in the bed of the truck. The decaying body of a young woman was waiting for them beneath a tarp. The interrogation that followed horrified the inspectors, who had little idea that a serial killer had been preying upon the prostitutes of New York. Now faced with the evidence, they sought to verify the words of the man who had been driving the truck, Joel Rifkin, or that he would go down in history as the most notorious killer in Long Islands history.
